Virtually try on outfits via the Walmart iPhone app
Buying clothes online is a challenge because it’s hard to know how an item will look without trying it on. Many customers resort to purchasing the same garment in multiple sizes hoping that one will fit and considering returning the rest. Walmart’s answer is Be Your Own Model.
Customers scan a photo of themselves. This is used to create a virtual model. “We start by using complex machine learning algorithms and models – techniques originally used to develop highly accurate topographic maps – to create a ‘topographic map’ of a customer,” says the retail giant. by retail.
The neural networks then determine the appearance of the clothes chosen by the customer on the virtual model. This includes how the item fits based on size and how the fabric drapes. Images of the garment are used to create a more realistic look.
Select items from national brands such as Champion, Levi’s and Hanes are part of Be Your Own Model. The same goes for many items from the retailer’s exclusive brand collection. Look for the “Try On” button on the Walmart app’s item pages.
Be Your Own Model is currently rolling out to the iPhone version of the Walmart app. Coming soon, iOS users will also be able to transfer their image from the Walmart app to use the virtual dressing room feature on the web.
