[Updated] Waiting for the Clubhouse app for Android release date? Try these alternatives

New updates are added at the bottom of this story â¦â¦.
The original story (published 06 March 2021) follows:
Clubhouse has recently made the headlines of many news organizations. The invitation-only chat app allows you to connect and listen live to conversations between people.
Unlike listening to podcasts, Clubhouse is where you can listen to some of the most influential people in the world or anyone else for that matter without edits, covers, and scripts.
The app is said to have exploded in popularity thanks to Elon Musk joining a conversation on The Good Time Show, a late-night chat hosted by Andreessen Horowitz General Partner Sriram Krishnan.

The founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla also invited President Putin to join him in a conversation on the Clubhouse chat app via a Tweeter. That said, Clubhouse has been installed by millions of people and is growing every day.
This massive growth comes as the app is only available on iOS. Moreover, the developers of the Clubhouse have not yet made any suggestions to let us believe that the application will be available on Android soon.
But Android users shouldn’t feel left out. This is because a few other app makers are looking to ride the wave that Clubhouse has created and we’ve listed a few below. The most popular is Twitter.
Twitter spaces
Twitter began experimenting with its new Clubhouse competitor called âSpacesâ towards the end of December. He shared some details regarding the availability of spaces and the features that are being tested in a tweet thread.
Much like Clubhouse, the feature was only available to iOS users. However, Twitter recently announced that the beta test of its competitor Clubhouse is also going live for Android users.
According to the official tweet, Android users will be able to join and talk in any space right away. However, there is a huge caveat at the moment as users of Android devices cannot host Spaces.

That said, all the features are expected to be available for Android users soon as well. While Spaces is not as widely used as Clubhouse (at the moment), it offers virtually the same live chat experience.
All you need to get started with Spaces is the Twitter app on your Android phone. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store if you haven’t installed it already.
InstaHelo
InstaHelo is a dedicated audio chat app available on Android which is a great alternative to Clubhouse.
The app lets you join rooms to chat with other people or even host your own room to talk about whatever interests you. In addition, unlike Clubhouse, the app is available to everyone without the need for special codes.
All you need is an Android smartphone running Android 7.1 or later to get started with InstaHelo. Sure, you might not find big names like Elon Musk or Bill Gates here, but everyone has to start from one place, right?
InstaHelo is free and can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store.
House club
It is not an official app that can be downloaded for the Google Play Store. Instead, you’ll need to load the app by downloading an APK file.
The app is more of a workaround than a proper Clubhouse alternative as it basically tricks Clubhouse into believing the user is on an iOS device according to a report.
Houseclub was created in a day by a Russian programmer – Grigori. The source code for the app is publicly available on GitHub.
You can also download the APK file of this Clubhouse alternative on Android by clicking here (version 1.0.8). Note that the use of this application may result in the banning of your Clubhouse account.
Update 1 (March 9)
10:45 a.m. (IST): Instagram is apparently testing a Clubhouse-like feature – dubbed âAudio Roomsâ – that will allow users to interact with each other in the same way as Clubhouse.
Alessandro Paluzzi, developer, shared screenshots audio rooms after reverse engineering the app to enable hidden channels. We’ve shared some screenshots below:
Other than that, there are a few other Clubhouse alternatives on this hike that you might want to try. They are Wavve, Spoon, Discord and Riffr.
Update 2 (March 11)
12:34 p.m. (IST): As we mentioned above, Twitter spaces can be hosted by a limited number of users at a time. However, a new report from The Verge suggests that Twitter could allow anyone to water a space starting in April.
Until then, iOS and Android users can join existing spaces and interact as usual. It’s also worth noting that Twitter didn’t guarantee that everyone would be able to host spaces in April, although that’s what they are aiming for.

Update 6 (April 01)
4:32 p.m. (IST): Spotify is looking to host live audio chats and recently acquired Betty Labs for this purpose. Betty Labs is the company behind the Locker Room live sports audio app. Spotify did not disclose how much it spent on the purchase.
Following this acquisition, the Locker Room application will remain on the App Store but will be renamed in the future.
Update 7 (April 06)
The Clubhouse app now supports the monetization / payment feature where users will be able to pay creators directly.
All users will be able to send payments today, and we’ll be rolling out the ability to receive payments in waves, starting with a small test group today.
The functionality, for now, is limited to iOS as the app has yet to land on Android devices. But once it supports Android, users should be able to take advantage of the monetization feature as well.
Update 8 (April 07)
9:53 am (IST): If you’re still looking for other Clubhouse alternatives for Android, check out Stereo, Cappuccino, and Anchor. The best show on Stereo can even get a weekly prize of $ 20,000. So go for a chance to win a load of cash.
Update 9 (April 08)
5:45 p.m. (IST): Facebook has reportedly started beta testing a new application called “Hotline”, which is expected to become a Clubhouse rival. The app even allows listeners to react with emoji (similar to existing options on Facebook).
Update 10 (April 12)
6:50 p.m. (IST): Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison has released a public statement claiming the data breach app report is completely false.
He claims the data is already publicly available and can be viewed by anyone through their API according to a report from The Verge.
Update 11 (April 14)
3:33 p.m. (IST): Mopewa, a developer responsible for developing Clubhouse for Android, recently teased the Android version on Twitter. And with a retweet to his post, Morgan Evetts added a rough release date in May. So we can expect to see the official Android app go live next month.

Update 12 (April 20)
11:40 a.m. (IST): Reddit also has Clubhouse in its crosshairs. The social platform announced Reddit Talk on Monday which allows users to host audio conversations within their communities.
Currently, only mods will be able to host audio chats for Q&A, AMAs, lectures, sports radio style chats, community feedback sessions, or just to give community members a place to meet.
Discussions take place within communities and, during the first tests, only the moderators of a community will be able to start a conference.
Update 13 (April 26)
10:04 am (IST): Some users of the official Twitter app for Android (non-beta) can now create and host places according to a new report.
Update 14 (May 03)
Clubhouse has now started beta testing its Android app, but only some users have it. Below is part of the statement issued by the company regarding this development:
Android isn’t live yet, but we’ve started to deliver a rough beta to a handful of nice testers. If you hear someone say they use Clubhouse on the official Android app, please welcome them! We look forward to welcoming more Android users to the Clubhouse in the coming weeks. ð ð
