The North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior today announced the launch of the Nora emergency call app for iOS and Android. Under the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia, this processor was developed as a nationally balanced solution within the framework of cooperation between the Länder. The Nora app is the official emergency call app of the Länder. The app provides quick and easy access to police, fire and ambulance services in the event of an emergency. It currently operates in 15 federal states in Germany. Votes are still needed before it can be adopted in Berlin. The app uses the location function of your mobile device to send your exact location to the functional control center in charge. This makes it easy for emergency services to find you even if you don’t know where you are. You can use the app to make emergency calls without speaking. It allows people with speech and hearing impairments to communicate directly with the control centers of the police, fire brigade and emergency services. To make an emergency call with Nora, you must first register, for which you will need a mobile number. You will receive a confirmation code by SMS to this number. Once you’ve entered your name and confirmation code, you can make emergency calls with Nora. The Nora app requires iOS 12.1 or Android 5.0 or later and can now be downloaded for free.

The app determines the emergency location using the locate function of your mobile device and automatically sends it to the responsible functions control center. You can use Nora to communicate with the functional control center in a text chat. However, if you are not using the chat, the control center will send help.
