The Dubious Android App You Should Remove Now
An app for Android users conceals malicious adware that allows pop-ups to appear on your phone even when the app is not in use.
The PDF reader is designed to wait several hours after downloading before starting to show ads, which makes it difficult to determine where popups are coming from.

The app is called “PDF Reader – Document Viewer” and the file package name is “com.document.pdf.viewer”, according to cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes.
He reports that full-screen ads become more frequent over time and are signaled by a chime, prompting people to check their phone.
There are a few small red flags to watch out for, which are visible from the Google Play Store.
First, the content rating is set to “Mature 17+”, which is out of the ordinary for a PDF reader.
Second, the name of the developer listed below the app name is “Fairy Games”, and while it’s possible for a game developer to release a PDF reader, it’s certainly not that common.
The Play Store description warns that the app contains ads, but it’s the way the ads appear once downloaded – full screen and appearing outside the app with notifications – that makes this download so dodgy.
Different versions of the same app have been circulating since November 2021, according to Malwarebytes.
You can uninstall the app in Application Information in your settings, or with anti-malware or anti-adware scanners.
