Apple Music Lossless, Dolby Atmos Makes Its Way To India; Android beta users reportedly experience lossless audio

Apple Music Lossless and Dolby Atmos support have arrived in India for âApple Musicâ subscribers and the Indian official site has been updated to mention the latest additions as well. The features were announced in May and began rolling out in June as part of the WWDC 2021 opening keynote in some regions, but the launch in India has been delayed. Now, these features have started rolling out to iOS devices and Apple TV, and users have taken to Twitter to share screenshots. Moreover, Apple Music beta users on Android also benefit from these features in India.
In May, Apple announced that it would bring Lossless Audio, Spatial Audio, and Dolby Atmos support to Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost. Then in June, during WWDC 2021, the Cupertino giant announced it was rolling out the features for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV 4K users. Back then, Indian users were not getting these features, but later Apple India’s website was updated to show that the features will be available soon. Now they have been made official because Apple Music India’s website mentions Dolby Atmos and Lossless audio as part of its Apple Music features. Some users have already started to see Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos in their Apple Music app on iOS devices and Apple TV.
A few users shared on Twitter that Lossless and Dolby Atmos features were available on the Apple Music app in India. However, this appears to be a phased deployment as not all features are visible to everyone. According to a Tweeter by tech columnist Sahil Mohan Gupta, a âlosslessâ icon is available on the Apple Music app in some albums. In the audio quality settings, you can enable lossless audio and set the quality of mobile data streaming, Wi-Fi streaming, and downloads with lossless audio.
Another Twitter user sharing this “Dolby Atmos” icon was also visible under some albums in the Apple Music application. More information on these features coming to India is expected soon from Apple.
Additionally, Headphone Zone founder and CEO shared an image on The Indian Audiophile Forum (private) Facebook group showing the settings on Android. It is probably present on the Apple Music beta app on Android and gives users the option of choosing between “High Quality”, “Lossless” and “High Resolution Lossless”.
